Have a question about Restylane treatment? Here you will find answers to some of the more frequently asked questions.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are an attractive option for those who want to improve their appearance and restore their youthfulness without surgery.
Restylane dermal fillers can help to smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, restore loss of volume and structure, and help provide definition and shape. They are formulated as clear gels that contain hyaluronic acid, a hydrating molecule that is naturally found in the skin but diminishes with age. Restylane gels are injected into the target areas by a qualified aesthetics healthcare professional to achieve a more youthful look.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that provides support, structure and hydration to the skin. However, as we age our body produces less hyaluronic acid, so our skin can become thinner, dehydrated and less firm, losing its radiance and youthful appearance2.
All Restylane products contain hyaluronic acid to deliver deep hydration and structure in the treated areas.
What do Restylane Restore products do?
Restylane Restore products can help restore a healthy, youthful appearance by filling lines and wrinkles or by adding volume. They can be used in different parts of the face, including the forehead, eye area, mouth and cheeks.
What do Restylane Enhance products do?
Restylane Enhance products can help to enhance your facial balance by providing more definition and shape. They can be used in a number of facial areas, including nose, lips, chin and cheeks.
What do Restylane SkinboostersTM products do?
Restylane Skinboosters products can help to gradually improve your skin’s condition, increasing elasticity, and reducing fine lines and imperfections. They deliver hydration deep inside the skin to improve your skin’s quality in the face, the hands, the neck and décolletage.

What does Restylane treatment involve?
Your aesthetic healthcare professional will develop an individualised treatment plan based on your needs after a consultation. If you are happy to proceed, your aesthetic aesthetic healthcare professional will ask you to complete a medical history and consent form before you can go ahead with treatment.
Depending on which treatment you choose, Restylane dermal fillers or Skinboosters™ will be injected into the target area. Treatment with Restylane dermal fillers involves injection of the hyaluronic acid gel into the skin in small amounts using a very fine needle or cannula to provide lift or volume, or smoothen out lines and wrinkles. Treatment with Restylane Skinboosters involves multiple injections of tiny droplets of the hyaluronic acid gel to provide hydration.
The effects can sometimes be seen instantly depending on the treatment you receive, and there also may be some temporary swelling and redness that diminishes with time.
Will my skin be red or swollen after treatment?
Like any treatment involving injections, you may experience swelling, redness itchiness or bruising after Restylane treatment. This is, however, only temporary.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment is fast, and typically takes only between 15 to 40 minutes.
Will I need pain relief?
Most Restylane products are available with 0.3% lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to provide you with a more comfortable treatment. Restylane products are also delivered through carefully designed needles to minimise pain and injury.
Further pain relief is generally not needed when injecting into the skin to smoothen out lines and wrinkles. You can, however, ask your aesthetics healthcare professional if you would like to receive some local anaesthetic as well.
Because the lips are a highly sensitive part of the body, you may choose to receive additional anaesthesia before lip enhancement, for example a local anaesthetic or dental block. Ask your aesthetics healthcare professional for advice on the most suitable anaesthetic for your treatment.
How long will my results last?
Restylane dermal fillers and Skinboosters™ offer long-lasting results, varying from 6 to 18 monthsError! Bookmark not defined.. The exact duration will depend on the product you use, your age, the condition of your skin and the area treated.
After the initial treatment, follow-up sessions are normally recommended around every 6 to 12 months depending on the individual and the area treated.
For Restylane Skinboosters, we recommend following up the initial course of three treatments (spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart) with regular maintenance sessions every 6 months afterwards.
Are there side effects to treatment?
The most common side effects include treatment site reactions such as swelling, bruising, redness, pain, and tenderness. These side effects generally disappear within 1 week after injection. Other potential side effects can occur with dermal filler or Restylane Skinboosters™ injections. You should discuss the potential treatment risks with your aesthetic healthcare professional.
What should I avoid after treatment?
After the treatment, you should avoid exposing the treated area to heat (sunbathing, saunas, steam baths, etc.) or extreme cold until any signs of local inflammation have disappeared.
